The highest honorary award granted by the NIST Director. A Bronze Medal is defined as superior performance characterized by outstanding or significant contributions which have increased the efficiency and effectiveness of NIST.
Dr. Meisenkothen is honored for the development of standards-based techniques for atom probe tomography. Application of these techniques enables nanometer-scale mass spectrometry and imaging to be performed with previously unattainable levels of quantitative accuracy and reproducibility. His efforts are bringing these improved capabilities to practitioners of this technique in fields such as semiconductor metrology, geology, and isotopic analysis.
