Implementing Executive Order 13960 Promoting the Use of Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence in the Federal Government

As required by Executive Order 13960, NIST annually prepares an inventory of its non-classified, non-sensitive, and non-research use cases of AI.  Currently, NIST does not have any operational use cases that meet the scope of this Executive Order.

In FY2023, NIST will re-evaluate to identify, review, and assess any AI deployed and operating in support of the agency mission to ensure consistency with this order.

Executive Order 13960 Promoting the Use of Trustworthy AI in the Federal Government establishes principles for the use of AI in the Federal Government, establishes a common policy for implementing the principles, directs agencies to catalogue their AI use cases, and calls on General Services Administration (GSA) and the Office of Personnel Management to enhance AI implementation expertise at the agencies.

Please forward any questions to NIST Responsible AI Officer, chandan.sastry [at] nist.gov (chandan[dot]sastry[at]nist[dot]gov)
