Abstract

Fifth-generation millimeter-wave communications rely on channel estimators to correctly predict the frequency response of the propagating channel. Millimeter-wave communication systems have non-ideal hardware performance, such as phase noise, which adversely affects their performance. Hardware irregularities can be statistically simulated to capture this non-ideal hardware performance. In this paper, we develop the channel estimator evaluator and verify it against an analytical solution of the frequency response of ideal phased array hardware components. Future research includes the evaluation of a new Monte-Carlo based channel estimator for 5G wireless communication devices.
