Abstract

This paper is the introductory paper for a special issue of the journal Information Retrieval devoted to the TREC genomics track. The TREC genomics track ran from 2003 to 2007 and was one of the largest and longest-running challenge evaluations in biomedicine. The paper describes the details of the specific tasks undertaken in the TREC genomics track as well as of the papers included in the special issue.
