Abstract

SQUID multiplexers are being developed at NIST for the readout of large arrays of transition-edge-sensor (TES) detectors. Applications for these arrays include x-ray materials analysis on a scanning-electron microscope and astronomical cameras for x-ray missions such as Constellation X and submillimeter telescopes like SCUBA-2 and ACT. This poster describes in detail the warm electronics necessary to drive the three-stage SQUID amplifier. A 3U crate contains the critical timing and digital feedback electronics, including a clock card, which generates and passes the 50-MHz crate master clock; several digital feedback cards, each of which flux-locks and read out a column of detectors; and several address cards, each of which biases eight rows of 1st-stage SQUIDS. In addition, a tower mounted on the cryostat contains pre-amp cards that current-bias and read out eight SQUID series arrays, and bias cards, which current- and flux-bias the SQUID stages. All connections to the computer that controls the system are optical.
