Abstract
This article specifically explores the new ASTM International Standard Guide for Characterizing Environmental Aspects of Manufacturing Processes and its applicability for the Chemical Industry. The standard provides guidance for industries to examine unit manufacturing processes, capture the characteristics of those processes in terms of how they impact the environment, and look for opportunities to be more sustainable in their operations. The standard also encourages standard representations for consistent and effective deployment of manufacturing tools and reuse of data and information models.
