Recent Work Leading Toward a New Evaluation of Neutron Standards

A number of national cross section libraries are planning new versions of their libraries including ENDF/B and JEFF. The first step in producing these new libraries is evaluating the neutron standards. A new evaluation of the standards is now underway. Work has been done by reviewing new experiments. Procedures and codes for performing the evaluations have been studied. In addition to the standard cross sections, investigations of reference data that are not as well known as the standards but are being widely used as reference data in relative measurements of certain types of cross sections are being considered. Also included is an effort to improve evaluations of certain prompt fission neutron spectra. Most of these data have applications in neutron dosimetry
