Abstract

As Internet of Things (IoT) technologies become more prevalent in society, there is still a large technology gap existing in the public safety field. This presentation discusses a joint effort between the Public Safety Communications Research (PSCR) division and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate to determine a schema for the foundational data that public safety requires in their activities. The presentation begins by discussing the issues with utilizing existing IoT systems in the first responder environment. It then shows the process that was undertaken to obtain the data and gives a sample of the proposed output, which will be available at the end of FY2020. Additionally, it will outline future efforts to assist first responders in accessing the technological information that they need.
