Abstract

Factory automation, a relatively new technology, is being pursued by all industrial countries. It promises to increase factory productivity; improve product quality; relieve workers from repetitive and boring tasks and unpleasant, hazardous environments; and minimize production delays and resource waste. An economically competitive automated system integrates the various control processes and data used in design, manufacturing, sale, and service of products so that feedback from any of the processes can be used to better design, planning control, and production.
