Migration Plan for Product Data Standards

Abstract

A significant benefit of using standards is that standards ease the migration from one computing environment to another. But what happens when the migration if from one standard to another? The organization that led the creation of both has committed to develop a migration plan for organizations who need to move from IGES to STEP. The objective of both of these standards is to provide a common representation for sharing of digital product data, from concept through design, analysis, manufacture, and support. This paper describes the output of a workshop that was held to kick-off the development of a migration plan.
