Abstract

This paper updates and expands upon previously published information on MatML, a new extensible markup language designed specifically for the exchange of materials information. In particular, it will describe the strengths of MatML from the perspective of a materials specialist, dealing with either metallurgical or design considerations. MatML was developed by specialists at NIST with the support and involvement of a broad range of industry and academic partners. The current status and implementation may be found at http://matml.nist.gov. A steering committee has been established including industrial partners to advise on the commercialization and application of the technology.
