Abstract

Two primary objectives of weights and measures enforcement are to promote fair competition among companies and to ensure accurate measurement for consumers. To achieve these objectives, it is necessary to have knowledgeable weights and measures officials, service company representatives, device manufacturers, device users, retail store managers, and packagers who are familiar with the applicable weights and measures laws and regulations. Second, it is important that weights and measures officials strive to apply and enforce the laws and regulations uniformly across the country. Inconsistency in these practices undermines the effectiveness of weights and measures enforcement.
