Abstract

In this video we show the jetting behavior of a shear banding worm-like micelle solution in microfluidic flows. The jetting behavior is characterized by a self-contained portion of the channel where the flow velocity is greater than the surroundings. We demonstrate the jetting flow in large aspect ratio rectangular microfluidic channels and compare the cross-section flow profile to numerical simulations. Finally, the inward and outward flow from a glass capillary in a reservoir is compared. While steady flow is observed for outward flow, unsteady jetting behavior is observed for inward flow.
