Abstract
The purpose of the Guide for the Selection of Explosives Detection and Blast Mitigation Equipment for Emergency First Responders is to provide responder groups with information to aid them in the selection and purchase of explosives detection and blast mitigation equipment. The guide is intended to be more practical than technical and provides information on a variety of factors that should be considered when purchasing and using these types of equipment. These characteristics and performance parameters are referred to as selection factors. The selection factors were compiled by a panel of experienced scientists and engineers with multiple years of experience in explosives detection and blast mitigation and analysis, domestic preparedness, and identification of emergency first responder needs. The factors have also been shared with the emergency responder community in order to obtain their thoughts and comments.
