Abstract

An overview of frequency metrology, with emphasis on estimating accuracy and stability, oscillator types, and measurement instrumentation. It describes how to measure frequency and the statistics and terminology that are used to report the results. The original version of this chapter was written in 1997 (published in 1999), and about 90% of the material has been revised for the forthcoming 2nd edition of the "Measurement, Instrumentation, and Sensors Handbook".
