Abstract

State level calculations are fundamental to extract any parameter of a time-domain waveform. Here we compare state level calculations using two different estimators, the histogram mode method and the shorth method. Our results show that both methods yield accurate results. The conclusions are applicable to any waveform ranging from slow geological to ultrafast optical events.
