Errors in Accelerometer Calibration Using Laser interferometry Due to Harmonic Distortion and Cross Motion in the Applied Motion

Abstract

The development of exciters for the precise calibration of accelerometers requires minimizing distortion and cross motion in the exciter (shaker). It is well known that both distortion and cross motion can introduce significant errors in the calibration of accelerometers. The effects of harmonic distortion on measured sensitivity were determined experimentally. Known amounts of harmonic distortion were introduced at the input of an exciter. The change in the measured sensitivity of an accelerometer was noted for varying amounts of distortion. Measurements were also made using several values of cross motion to experimentally obtain the effects of cross motion on measured sensitivity for accelerometers. Experimental data were compared to theoretical results in the case of harmonic distortion. The results of this study should be useful
