Abstract
The collection and analysis of software error, fault, and failure data from many high integrity systems may yield reference data for matching development and assurance methods to characteristics of a specific system. Profiles derived from the data may help researchers to identify areas where new methods of error prevention and detection are most needed. The National Institute of Standards and Technology has initiated a program on error, fault, and failure data collection and analysis to address these two topics. An initial data collection and analysis tool has been developed for this project.
