Abstract

We discuss the temperature dependence of the electronic damping of adsorbate vibrations, as probed by pump-and-probe and infrared spectroscopy. Incontrast to recent suggestions, we show that the damping is strictly temperature independent as long as the decay involves the excitation of single electron-hole pairs.
