Abstract

This paper describes the development of the Apache-Linux Measurement Toolkit (ALMT), which is a highly accurate measurement tool for evaluating the performance of a Web server. The toolkit combines hardware and software to provide fine-grained data on the performance of the Linux operating system and the Apache Web server that are included as part of the toolkit. MultiKron II performance measurement hardware is used to minimize the perturbation induced while collecting measurement data. We present experimental results that show the effectiveness of the MultiKron II hardware when compared to software only solutions.
