Peter Ficnerski (Fed)

Deputy Director, Emergency Services Office

Peter Ficnerski, SPFC, PSP is a Subject Matter Expert in National Security, Security,  Risk Management, and Emergency Management at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). His focus is on ensuring the protection of NIST Staff (Employees, Associates, Guest Researchers, Contractors, and Visitor), Information (Research, National Security, and Proprietary), and assets of NIST from all hazard threats, while ensuring NIST has the freedom needed to conduct their world class research and science. 

Mr. Ficnerski is currently serving NIST as the Deputy Director for the Emergency Services Office within the Management Resources Organizational Unit located at the NIST Gaithersburg Campus in Maryland. 

Mr. Ficnerski has worked in the National Security, Security, Risk Management, and Emergency Management profession within the Federal Government for the last 18 years. Some of his notable roles have been with the Department of Defense (DoD), National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and Transportation Security Administration (TSA). 

Mr. Ficnerski sits on numerous International and Domestic Committees that support the security profession in the realms of forced entry, cybersecurity, security administration, risk management, antiterrorism, information security, physical security, industrial security, and certification standards for security professionals. His work on these committee has impacted the entire U.S. Federal Government, but also supported the strengthening our International Allies. 

Mr. Ficnerski earned his M.A. in Homeland Security with Honors from American Military University with an emphasis in Counterintelligence and Homeland Security and his B.A in Criminal Justine with a specialization in Homeland Security from Saint Leo University. 

Mr. Ficnerski has also completed multiple courses and holds multiple certifications in the realm of counter terrorism, antiterrorism, force protection, explosives, improvised explosives, counter improvised explosives devices, physical security, information security, operations security, special access programs, counterintelligence, law enforcement, advanced law enforcement tactics, active shooter response, tactics instruction, security program management, and leadership.

Mr. Ficnerski has obtained numerous awards and accolades throughout his career for his teamwork, innovation, attention to detail, and exceptional achievement.
