Dr. Miles McCord is a physicist in the Radiation Physics Division at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg, Maryland. His focus is in conducting testing of radiation detection instruments for homeland security applications. This effort has involved travel to various national laboratories in the US to conduct and supervise testing of radiation detection instruments in accordance with standards and standardized test procedures. The purpose of this testing is to collect data that can be used for modeling and simulation of the instruments and utilize test methods so the performance of like instruments can be compared.
Dr. McCord is also involved in the development of the test facility at NIST where testing of radiation instruments for homeland security can be conducted and in the development of a gamma-gamma coincidence detector system using two HPGe detectors.
