I started at the NCNR as an intern assisting and learning under Nick Maliszewskyj in 2003 while working on obtaining my BA degree in computer programing from University of Maryland University College. At the end of my internship I left the NCNR and found myself returning 2 years later in 2005 as an Indications and Controls technician in Reactor Operations group where I remain today.

My main job is maintaining the calibration of the indications of the reactor console to adhere to the NBSR technical specification requirements governed by the NRC. The difficulty of this is maintaining older equipment where often, the original manufacturer was bought by a rival competitor. Support from the new manufacturer does not always occur, sometimes the repair requires consulting of the Engineers at the NCNR or rolling up your sleeves and diving into troubleshooting. It is this challenge that makes the position I am in so interesting and rewarding. Over the years I have been part of many projects to maintain, upgrade and improve the reactor console. Using my education and experience and collaborating with operators and engineers, we have pulled together some great ideas and some not so promising ideas over the years.

I am an US Navy Veteran, serving from 1992 to 1998. I started my Navy career in Orlando Florida for "boot camp", 'A' school and Nuclear Power school from 1992-1993. In 1994 I attended to prototype school at the Weapons station in good ole Goosecreek, SC. In 1994 I was assigned to the USS Enterprise and served as a Nuclear Electrician (EM) until 1998 when I decided to end my adventures with the Navy and returned to my hometown of Frederick, Maryland. Upon coming home I started a job with ABB Service Incorporated and worked there until 1999 when they closed the workshop I was at and relocated everyone to South Carolina. Instead of relocating, I attended the University of Maryland University College earning my BA in computer program. In 2002, I got married and now have two amazing kids who keep us laughing and crying (more laughing than crying), a crazy dog named Max and even a lizard named Blaze. I love the outdoors, mostly where water is involved; rivers, lakes and oceans. If I could do anything I wanted, I would take my family sailing in the Caribbean, do some fishing and diving for buried treasures.
