Dr. Papp is honored for world leadership in the science and engineering of microresonator frequency combs and the larger field of integrated photonics. “Microcombs” are revolutionizing laser applications due to their portability and their useful ability to generate signals at regularly spaced frequency intervals. Dr. Papp's advances to the field are being rapidly adopted for applications in laser science, precision frequency measurement for optical atomic clocks, quantum sensing, and optical signal processing. His work has also advanced the broader, growing field of nonlinear nanophotonics.
