Susan Schima is recognized for leadership and excellence in the realization of microfabricated systems for chip-scale clocks and quantum sensors in support of the NIST-on-a-Chip program and multiple other-agency projects to develop microfabricated atomic instruments. Since 2005, Susan has brought critical microfabrication expertise to countless atomic-clock and sensing projects that rely on atomic vapor cells containing parts that she fabricates. Her expertise, teamwork, and dedication have ensured the success of multiple generations of clocks and quantum sensors. Miniaturized instruments containing parts that she has fabricated have been used broadly in scientific collaborations within and outside of NIST as well as around the world.
