The team is recognized for creating a novel suite of instruments and methods to dispense and validate accurately measured masses of milligram-scale radioactive liquid samples. The resulting reduction of sample size by two orders of magnitude was necessary to enable the use of millimeter-sized NIST quantum sensors to characterize tiny samples of radioactive material. This important advance in radioactive source preparation greatly interests the radionuclide metrology community. This new capability has applications beyond NIST within the drug and chemical industries and for security applications.
