AWARD CITATION

Dr. Miller is recognized for the development of LaTeXML, a software tool that translates from TeX/LaTeX, a popular authoring tool for scientific documents containing math, to HTML/MathML, for display on the web. MathML, which is now supported by most web browsers, enables interpretation of math by Braille readers or text-to-speech tools. Recently, the arXiv, a preprint server used heavily in physics, math, and computer science, and which contains more than two million articles, has begun using LaTeXML to translate submitted articles to HTML/MathML to improve accessibility.
