The group is honored for the development of a non-contact thermal imaging technology capable of precise temperature measurement at any point within the bulk of a material. They synthesized magnetic nanoparticles and used them in novel three-dimensional magnetic imaging to achieve a precision of 25 millikelvin at a spatial resolution of (100μm)^3, exceeding all known thermal three-dimensional imaging capabilities. This technology has applications in thermal sensing of biological environments, advanced packaging for semiconductors, ballistic impact of materials, and additive manufacturing.
