The team is recognized for advancing PFAS metrology through developing improved analytical methods, identifying and correcting analytical interferences, and creating reference materials to underpin human bio-monitoring and environmental assessment. In partnership with other federal agencies (FDA, EPA, CDC and DOD), the team utilized these advanced capabilities to study temporal trends in the marine environment and to develop a database to facilitate accurate and reliable PFAS identification in environmental and clinical samples. The measurement infrastructure created by the team is an essential element for global environmental remediation efforts and the assessment of health risks posed by PFAS.
