Dr. Zabow is recognized for his paper on three-dimensional microprinting, published in the journal Science. In it, he describes an elegant approach to solving a complex microprinting problem that has eluded conventional lithography. Using a mixture of corn syrup and sugar, he was able to reflow arrays of microprinted structures onto almost any three-dimensional surface and shape. This surprising and beautifully clear paper provides novel functionality to biomaterials, medical imaging agents, and therapeutic mediators through micro-engineering their optical, magnetic, and chemical properties.
