John Bollinger

AWARD CITATION

Dr. Bollinger is recognized for long-term contributions to measurement methods that are limited only by the constraints of quantum mechanics. He invented and demonstrated new techniques for quantum-state manipulation that have been used to fundamentally improve the performance of atomic clocks and sensors, simulate the behavior of complicated quantum systems, and perform quantum computations. His techniques are being applied to the study of complex materials that cannot be carried out by classical computers and to new ways to perform computations.
