Dr. Gayle is recognized for his contributions over decades of service to NIST. As scientist and group leader, his transformative outreach and contributions to industry led to impact in metallurgy and measurement science, including technology, environmental sustainability, and building safety. As division chief, he oversaw numerous award-winning programs while inspiring high morale and a cooperative spirit. As an Organizational Unit leader, his robust contributions to national, multi-agency programs are improving advanced manufacturing and semiconductor manufacturing. Dr. Gayle has earned the respect of colleagues at NIST, other agencies, industry, and academia for his open leadership style and for embracing the value of diversity and inclusion.
