Quantum-based technology will define the global economic landscape for decades to come. Dr. Carl J. Williams worked tirelessly to prepare the U.S. to lead in the emerging quantum economy, in the face of fierce global competition. He spearheaded and guides a preeminent quantum research program at NIST; worked across agencies to establish a national quantum vision with supporting legislation; formed 2 joint institutes; and established an industrial consortium to address supply chain and work force needs that is so successful that Williams is now helping like-minded countries to replicate it.
