The Material Measurement Laboratory of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) anticipates the need for a Division Chief of its Applied Chemicals and Materials Division (ACMD). The ACMD has more than 60 permanent scientific and engineering staff and nearly 40 domestic and international associates. Its permanent technical staff consist of PhD-level researchers focusing on the science and engineering of materials and fluids including chemists, mechanical and chemical engineers, materials scientists, and physicists. The division’s multidisciplinary activities providethe measurement science, data, standards, and technology required to support the Nation’s need to design and characterize materials and fluids of importance to industry, energy, and physical infrastructure. This work builds confidence in measurements needed to advance knowledge and foster innovation in the broad range of manufacturing and technology sectors that rely upon advanced materials and chemicals. The principal duties for the division are on the Boulder, CO campus of NIST.
Candidates should have extensive experience in research related to materials, thermophysics, and/or chemistry and in managing a multidisciplinary scientific and technical workforce. Candidates should have a degree in the physical sciences with a demonstrated specialization in the materials sciences, chemical sciences, thermophysics, or related engineering disciplines, in accordance with OPM qualification standards.
