MML Launches National Search for Division Chief

The Material Measurement Laboratory of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) anticipates the need for a Division Chief of its Applied Chemicals and Materials Division (ACMD) The ACMD has more than 60 permanent scientific and engineering staff and nearly 40 domestic and international associates.   Its permanent technical staff consist of PhD-level researchers focusing on the science and engineering of materials and fluids including chemists, mechanical and chemical engineers, materials scientists, and physicists.   The division’s multidisciplinary activities providethe measurement science, data, standards, and technology required to support the Nation’s need to design and characterize materials and fluids of importance to industry, energy, and physical infrastructure.  This work builds confidence in measurements needed to advance knowledge and foster innovation in the broad range of manufacturing and technology sectors that rely upon advanced materials and chemicals.  The principal duties for the division are on the Boulder, CO campus of NIST.

Interested candidates should submit a Curriculum Vitae (CV) or resume, along with a cover letter, that provides the following:  1) sufficient information to clearly articulate their leadership and management capabilities and experience, including both personnel and financial management, 2) a list of publications and a list of talks and presentations covering at least the past 5 years and which demonstrate research experience, and 3) a list of potential references.  The identified candidate will be hired as a ZP-V (GS-15) equivalent.

Depending on the identified candidate’s professional background, they will be hired as a Physical Scientist, ZP-1301, Grade V or as a Supervisory Physical Scientist, ZP-1301, Grade-V.  An applicant’s CV or Resume must provide clear evidence that they have performed highly creative, outstanding research that has led or can lead to major advances in the discipline or field of science involved, or to major advances in science or technology in general, can be rated under this provision for highly demanding research positions requiring similar abilities, or show at least 1 year equivalent at the GS-14 level.  The position when available will be posted at (http://www.usajobs.gov).  The salary range for the position is $131,898 - $164,200 per annum.  The National Institute of Standards and Technology of the Department of Commerce is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
