NIST releases The Text Recognition Algorithm Independent Evaluation (TRAIT) (NISTIR 8199), a report that describes how a dataset called the Text Recognition Algorithm Independent Evaluation (TRAIT) detects and recognizes text in images seized in child exploitation investigations. These images are of interest to NIST’s partner law enforcement agencies that seek to use text recognition in investigating serious crimes. The primary application of this work is the identification of previously known victims and suspects, as well as detection of new victims and suspects.
