National Aviation History Month: NIST and the Airship Los Angeles

In 1930, NIST (at the time called the Bureau of Standards) designed a mooring force indicator for the U.S. Navy airship Los Angeles. The need for such a device likely came about due to a freak accident in 1927 that caused the Los Angeles to stand almost vertical on its mooring tower.
