A Personal Perspective on Human Space Flight: the science and the future

A condensed matter physicist by training, Dr. Godwin is a veteran of four shuttle flights and has logged over 915 hours in space. She will discuss her experiences and NASA's activities in space based upon her participation on missions that included visits to two different space stations, including an overview of the advantages of scientific research in microgravity. Dr. Godwin will discuss how international cooperation became an important aspect of the International Space Station and how that emphasis changed during her NASA career. What might be the future of space exploration and space research? Dr. Godwin will discuss some of the prevailing opinions, NASA's current directive, and what is happening in the commercial space world.
