In this special Black History Month Colloquium, Dr. Lester will chronicle key aspects of his career both scientifically and personally that governed his life trajectory beginning with his professional start at the National Bureau of Standards (NBS, now NIST). Notable aspects of the science he pursued - the scattering theory of atoms and molecules and the electronic structure of such systems - will be highlighted. Noteworthy administrative and managerial experiences will be mentioned including leadership of the first unified effort in computational chemistry, the National Resource for Computation in Chemistry. If we are fortunate, Dr. Lester may also share a few words about the scoring records that he still holds for the University of Chicago's Basketball Team.
