This 2 hour webinar will examine the process of calibrating Volumetric Test Measures using NISTIR 7383 SOP 18 and compare this procedure to SOP 19 and the additional equations and measurement components it contains.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of (or during) this session, using your notes and SOP 18 you will be able to:

DESCRIBE the process of SOP 18 and SOP 19
IDENTIFY sources of error
IDENTIFY when use of SOP 18 is appropriate, and when SOP 19 should be used
Correctly IMPLEMENT OP 18 in the calibration of field standard test measures

Materials & Supplies:

Participants need to locate a field standard test measure and view the video available on our website for SOP 18 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GQrtm6vT8VQ&feature=youtube_gdata).

Prerequisite(s):

Participants must have successfully completed the Fundamentals of Metrology Seminar.

Pre-Work:

Read SOPs 18 and 19: http://www.nist.gov/pml/wmd/labmetrology/sops.cfm
Review "Uncertainty Definition" slides from Fundamentals (sent with confirmation information)
Complete an Uncertainty Budget table for each SOP (sent with confirmation information) based on identified components currently being used in your laboratory.

Pre-work Deadline:

Submit pre-work according to instructions by COB on Tuesday, April 7, 2015.

Minimum Requirement(s):

Completion includes completing pre-work assignment, full attendance and participation in the session activities and discussion.

Audience:

Laboratory personnel who have responsibilities for developing, implementing, and/or improving the quality management system in their laboratory as well as those who are seeking OWM recognition and/or accreditation or improvements to support recognition/accreditation. This course is available for weights and measures participants only.

Cost:

Registration fees for State weights and measures regulatory officials and metrologists are funded by NIST OWM.
