In 2008 and 2009, the Technology Innovation Program (TIP) at NIST held funding competitions in Civil Infrastructure (CI) entitled "Advanced Sensing Technologies for the Infrastructure." Its aim was to boost state-of-the-art sensing technologies and advanced repair/retrofit materials for structural health monitoring and repair of bridges, roads, water mains, dams/levees, and wastewater collection systems that are more accurate, easier to use, and more economically feasible than current technologies. Seventeen projects, involving more than 50 U.S. companies, universities, and government agencies, were selected in the two competitions. This Showcase will bring together a majority of the TIP CI award recipients to present their research results to a wide audience with interest in monitoring, assessing, and remediating the safety and integrity of America's civil infrastructure.
