Michele’s Granola is a small, woman-owned business located in Timonium, MD that was founded in 2006. Started in the kitchen of owner Michele Tsoucalas, the company has grown steadily since its inception. The bakery team prepares 2,500 pounds of granola each day, distributed to over 250 natural food retailers, grocery stores, specialty markets and food service locations
Last year Michele’s Granola approached MD MEP, part of the MEP National Network, to provide assistance with the purchase, build-out and launch of a new manufacturing facility. The production facility occupied by the Michele’s team consisted of a 3,000 square foot facility for prep, baking and packing space, adequate to get the company off the ground, but was inadequate to meet the current and future production needs of the company.
MD MEP engaged with Michelle’s Granola to provide consulting and assistance in the selection, design and purchase of a new production facility for Michele’s Granola. The MD MEP provided direct advisory and consulting assistance to the leadership of the Michele’s team in site location, size and requirements. Upon the purchase of a new 10,500 sq. ft. facility, the MD MEP team prepared facility and equipment layout, provided recommendations to optimize space, worked with the Michele’s team to ensure efficiencies and improve the processes.
