Fellow ASHRAE is a membership grade that recognizes members who have attained distinction and made substantial contributions in HVAC&R such as education, research, engineering design and consultation, publications and mentoring.
Mark McLinden, of MML's Applied Chemicals and Materials Division, was awarded the rank of Fellow in the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers. The presentation was made at the Winter Meeting of ASHRAE January 20 in Chicago. The rank of fellow is awarded for "substantial contributions and distinction in HVAC&R and the built environment;" only about 1 % of ASHRAE members hold this rank. In particular, McLinden was noted as a coauthor of every release of the NIST REFPROP database, which is the industry standard for refrigerant properties; the measurement of refrigerant thermodynamic properties at high accuracy; and the examination of the "universe of molecules" to identity refrigerants with low global warming potential.
