The “McGuire Award for Junior Researchers” (MAJR Medal) is awarded by the Structural Stability Research Council (SSRC) to a researcher who has impacted the structural stability field through service and research within ten years after obtaining their PhD. The award and medal will be officially presented at the Annual Stability Conference as part of AISC’s 2019 North American Steel Construction Conference (NASCC), which will take place next spring in St. Louis, MO. In honor of the award, Mina is invited to give an extended oral presentation at the conference. It is noted that in addition to Mina’s extensive publication record on stability topics, both under ambient and fire conditions, he currently serves as the chair of SSRC’s Task Group on ‘Stability under extreme loads’ (TG06). As part of his TG06 involvement, he was asked to lead the authorship of a new chapter on “Stability under Fire Loading” for the upcoming seventh edition of the “Guide to Stability Design Criteria for Metal Structures”, in addition to editing the other chapters that involve extreme loads such as earthquakes and blast.
