The NIST Quality System for Measurement Services is based on the ISO/IEC 17025 (General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories) and includes the requirements of ISO 17034 (General requirements for the competence of reference material producers), ISO/IEC 17043 (General requirements for proficiency testing) and ISO/TS 8000 (Data quality) as they apply to the various measurement services that NIST delivers.
The scope of the NIST Quality System includes the delivery of Calibration Services, Standard Reference Instruments, Standard Reference Data, and the development and certification of Standard Reference Materials. The NIST Quality Manager, Sally Bruce, is responsible for the administration of the quality system. The NIST quality system for measurement services satisfies the requirements of the International Committee for Weights and Measures (CIPM) Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) for recognition of national measurement standards; and as such, has been recognized as conformant by the Inter-American Metrology System (SIM) Quality System Task Force and the Joint Committee of the Regional Metrology Organizations and the BIPM (JCRB). The BIPM is the International Bureau of Weights and Measures.
