Project BriefNIST Measurement Science and Engineering Research Grants BIOFUELS THERMOPHYSICAL PROPERTIES
RECIPIENT: Brigham Young University, Provo, UT
Many processes are being developed for the production and purification of biofuels. Increasing focus on biofuels accentuates the need for accurate property values for these compounds. Critically evaluated, accurate thermophysical property data on these compounds are essential for efficient process design, development, and operation. This project will produce a database of these property values for 30 biofuel compounds that will contain the most accurate, consistent set of property values for the biofuel industry. Property prediction techniques that have not been extended and tested for these kinds of components will be developed from the database to assist in future expansion of this core database for biofuels. This database will enable future biofuel process design and development on a scientifically quantitative basis.
