Preparing for Growth

About

Busy Beaver Farm is a small farm in Beaver, Ohio, and produces, packages, and sells a variety of products such as honey, eggs, and beef. With four employees, Busy Beaver Farm sells much of their product locally, relying heavily on social media to market.

The Challenge

Busy Beaver Farm utilizes QuickBooks for all of their financial recording keeping and billing. The problem that needed addressed is that QuickBooks is going to an online format that requires new training and a large learning curve. As such a small company, Busy Beaver Farm simply could not afford the time that it would take to "self-teach" this new version of the online software.

The OSU South Centers MEP staff was very knowledgeable and understanding of our situation. The QuickBooks trainer they used was great to work with. They were very knowledgeable and professional. I would recommend any manufacturer take the time to work with The OSU South Centers MEP.

MEP's Role

The OSU South Centers MEP, part of the Ohio MEP and the MEP National Network™, conducted a class for in-person QuickBooks training. This training was a three session course. Topics covered included Intro, Daily Basics I, and Daily Basics II and was hosted in the OSU South Centers MEP conference room. Busy Beaver Farm was able to learn the initial setup of QuickBooks online through daily use including foundational knowledge and vocabulary, the setting up and creating of a chart of accounts, and utilizing actual invoices and receipts from their business to learn. Training also cover creating and maintaining a set of books, managing revenue and expenses, creating and paying bills, and writing checks.
