Title: Maturity Model Concepts for Sustainable Manufacturing
Published: May 21, 2014
Abstract: The general awareness of the need for use of earth‰s resources in a sustainable manner has been increasing in recent years. Governments, commercial organizations and individuals have been making efforts to better manage and use available resources. Companies in the manufacturing industry have also mounted efforts in this direction. However, the efforts for improving the efficiency of manufacturing processes vary widely across the industry and even within different locations of large manufacturing organizations. A number of initiatives across the world have developed guidance for organizations interested in sustainable manufacturing. We review major initiatives and research efforts for the purpose. We propose a maturity model to assist manufacturers with understanding the status of their efforts for sustainable manufacturing and to provide guidance for improvements in this important area.
