Abstract

FDD CX is a commissioning tool for unitary, air-source, single-speed, vapor compression air conditioner (AC) or heat pump (HP) systems. This software tool can be utilized to commission the operation of residential ACs or HPs to ensure proper refrigerant charge, indoor air flow and general system performance. The method employed is based upon Fault Detection and Diagnostic (FDD) techniques refined at NIST and implements a Rule Based Chart (RBC) technique with temperature thresholds and offsets to determine proper system refrigerant charge, indoor air flow rate, and system functioning. A user interface accepts input temperatures measured throughout the AC or HP system along with compressor map coefficients to perform its analysis. An example is provided to demonstrate the features of the software.
