|Abstract:||Recent results provide new theoretical concepts and practical algorithms for diffusion coefficient estimation in single-particle tracking. We compare two recent approaches to estimate the diffusion coefficient from a single-particle trajectory in the presence of localization error and motion blur for the case of isotropic Brownian diffusion. We show that both methods approach the theoretical limit on diffusion coefficient uncertainty given by the Cramér-Rao lower bound. We discuss implications of the theoretical limits and the practical performance of the numerical algorithms.|
