| Title: | Block copolymer photonic gel for mechanochromic sensing |
| Published: | September 19, 2011 |
| Abstract: | In this work, we describe a strategy based on mechanochromic sensing, the coupling between mechanical and optical properties, of a block copolymer photonic gel. Although this phenomena has been observed in many materials, we demonstrate this concept for block copolymer gels since their mechanical properties are highly tunable via swelling. By leveraging the mechanical and optical sensitivity of a block copolymer photonic gel, we introduce a simple, quantitative, and tunable mechanochromic sensor film for probing soft material mechanics by investigating the relationships between mechanics and photonic stopband characteristics as a function of solvent composition. |
